Sophia E. LaPorta is a senior at Rutgers University-Camden, majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics. As of Fall 2025, she became a part of the AI & Vulnerable Humans Honors Seminar. As a member of this seminar, her research focuses on Women, Indigenous Peoples, and Persons with Disabilities as vulnerable communities to the influences of artificial intelligence. Through this seminar, she has had the opportunity to co-author articles and gain a deeper insight into these vulnerable populations. Outside of her participation in the seminar, she is an undergraduate research assistant for the Salas biomaterials lab at Rutgers-Camden and was a Penn Chemistry REU Scholar in the Fakhraai Lab at the University of Pennsylvania. She plans to pursue a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering after completing her undergraduate degree at Rutgers.
