Dr. John Maldonado Joins AI Ethics Lab as Visiting Scholar

The AI Ethics Lab welcomes Dr. John Maldonado as a Visiting Scholar. He completed his Ph.D in the sociology department at Princeton University and was a postdoctoral research associate at the School of Public and International Affairs.

Previously, he served as an affiliate and fellow at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. He was also an affiliate of the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life at the University of North Carolina.

His research explores conflicts over the role of science in public life, drawing on various case studies, including the early 20th-century eugenics movement and the COVID-19 pandemic. More broadly, he is interested in questions of expertise in democratic societies and the sociopolitical impacts of technological innovation.
