Dr. Nathan C. Walker delivered the keynote address to 200 faculty and staff at Rutgers University, followed by an executive workshop on bipartisan lessons from studying AI ethics in U.S. law, an in-depth discussion on responsible technology with faculty at the Edelman College of Communication, Humanities & Social Sciences, and a dinner with Rowan University’s executive leadership.
Together, they explored how advances in artificial intelligence are impacting every sector of society in both innovative and disruptive ways. This led Dr. Walker to ask, “Is smart the best we can imagine for this century’s technology? Or are we striving for something more? AI promises efficiency, but will it enrich the human experience and tap what makes people wise?”
In reframing our understanding of what constitutes responsible technology development and use, he called on leaders across the arts, business, education, law, medicine, and the sciences to not just be passive spectators of these advancements, but active stakeholders shaping what responsible technology means for this and future generations.
